Pope Francis on Sunday extended his condolences to the family of the volunteer who died in Tacloban when a scaffolding near the altar crashed down on her shortly after the pontiff celebrated Mass at the airport.
Fr. Federico Lombardi, the director of the Holy See Press Office, said in a press briefing that the Pope was informed about the death of the 21-year-old woman, who was a volunteer from Samar.
Fr. Amadeo Alvero, Palo Archdiocese’ Social Communications Director, said the steel scaffolding was blown by strong winds brought by tropical storm Amang. The pontiff had to cut short his visit to Tacloban because of the inclement weather.
