Pope Francis appointed Bishop Marlo Peralta of Alaminos as the new Archbishop of Nueva Segovia in Ilocos Sur.
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) website said Peralta replaces Archbishop Ernesto Salgado, who recently retired at the age of 77.
Peralta was consecrated a bishop in 2006 by Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI as Coadjutor bishop of Alaminos on January 14 of the same year.
He was ordained as priest at the age of 25 in 1975.
The CBCP said it still has to schedule the date for the installation of the new bishop.
