MANILA Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle on Friday announced that they had come up with the official logo for the Philippine visit of Pope Francis in January 2015.

According to Tagle, the logo shows the Philippine flag in blue, red and yellow.

At its center, he said, is a yellow circle representing the country as Pearl of the Orient and inside of which is a white cross.

Tagle added that the white cross symbolizes the Christian faith and the fervent prayer of Filipinos for Jesus Christ to be the center of their adoration.

The white cross, he said, serves as a reminder as well that more than a state visit, the primary objective of the papal journey is a religious one.

Francis’ visit shows the Lord’s mercy and compassion for Filipinos, an article posted on the official website for the papal visit stated.

Tagle said the official logo also features two arms of different colors that are embracing a yellow pearl and symbolizing the arms of Francis and the theme of his visit, mercy and compassion.

He explained that the red arm represents the mercy shown by the pope to the people and the blue arm, the compassion of the pontiff for victims of natural calamities.
