Filipino international OJ Porteria will be pursuing his dream of playing abroad after his departure from local club Kaya FC.
The 22-year-old striker believes that it is the right time to take his talent elsewhere.
“It was a decision that I have been thinking about for a long time. Even before coming to the Philippines, I had dreams of playing in the United States or in Europe and after our AFC Cup run, it just felt like it is the right time for me,” he said.
Porteria, a product of the DC United Academy in the US, came to the country in 2011 after being invited to play for the Azkals.
A year after, the American-born Filipino standout announced that he would be playing for United Football League top-flight club Kaya FC, where he became a vital cog in the team’s journey in the recently concluded 2016 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup.
Porteria has played been called up to be part of the national football team 19 times and has played more than four season in the local premier football competition.
Porteria will head back to his family in the US for a short vacation before trying his luck with several clubs abroad.
“Right now, I will just go home and finish my official highlight video. Since I posted my departure from Kaya, a lot of people have been contacting me to send them videos,” he stated.
He mentioned he is still unsure of where he will be trying out but claimed that he has contacts with several clubs in Europe, Australia and US.
