• Power outage hits Aurora due to typhoon Labuyo

A POWER outage hit the province of Aurora as typhoon Labuyo made a landfall early on Monday morning.

Based on the report of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Central Luzon, the electric power in the towns of Baler, Casiguran, Dilasag, Dinalungan, Dingalan, Dipaculao, Maria Aurora and San Luis was cut off at about 3:00 a.m. on Monday as typhoon Labuyo’s strong winds and rain battered the province’s power infrastructure.

OCD regional director Josefina Timoteo said that as per report they are receiving from the Aurora Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, the Aurora Electric Cooperative (Aurelco) was forced to cut off power as some trees were uprooted.

Timoteo said Aurelco has yet to announce when power will be restored as they were still assessing the damage.

So far, she said there is no report of any casualty in Aurora as forced evacuations of residents were conducted since Sunday.

She said that all disaster response teams at the town and barangay levels have been instructed to conduct preemptive evacuations.

“We are continuously monitoring the situation there and assessing the damage caused by typhoon,” she said. PNA
