A VOLUNTEER for the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) was killed and her 14-year old son was wounded after they were waylaid by unidentified gunmen at dawn on Tuesday dawn in a suburban village in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur.
Reports reaching the PNP National Operations Center in Camp Crame identified the victims as Lilia Olmido, 44, a PPCRV volunteer and her son Michael, both of Barangay Ignacio Garatta in Pagadian City.
Police said the victims were walking from their house to San Isidro Parish Church bringing the final result of votes for the recently concluded synchronized elections when they were peppered with automatic rifles along the village of Old Mirapao.
Olmido sustained fatal gunshot wounds, killing her on the spot, while her son was hit in the right arm and legs and taken to Chavez Medical Center in Zamboanga Del Sur.
Responding policemen recovered from the crime scene at least 11 spent cartridges of an M16 rifle and one empty long magazine for M16 rifles.
It was not reported if the election results the victim was carrying were recovered or taken by the gunmen.
