Prayers and sympathies for Vhong Navarro flooded the social media after news broke that the ABS-CBN star was beaten up on Wednesday inside a condominium unit in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City.
In a statement he sent to ABS-CBN Network on Friday, Navarro’s talent manager, Chito Rono, described how Navarro was blindfolded, tied up and then attacked by several men shortly after he arrived at the condominium to visit an unnamed female friend.
Rono, a veteran director, also revealed that the men tried to extort money from Navarro.
The actor-comedian, singer and TV host is recovering from his injuries, but Rono said he might need an operation.
As of Saturday morning, the hashtags #PrayforVhongNavarro and #GetWellSoonVhongNavarro trended locally in Twitter.
Anne Curtis, Navarro’s It’s Showtime co-host, posted, “#PrayForVhongNavarro for his speedy recovery and safety L”. Curtis’ tweet was retweeted over 5,000 times.
Another of Navarro’s co-hosts, comedian Vice Ganda, tweeted: “Nakakaiyak. Nakakapanginig. Nakakapanghina.” followed by “#PrayforVhongNavarro.”
On Thursday, his close friend Billy Crawford wished Navarro to get well soon live on the show without revealing any details.
Fellow co-hosts Kim Atienza, Teddy Corpuz, Jugs Jugueta, Jhong Hilario and Eric Tai among others also joined in the online vigil.
Kapamilya celebrities like Xian Lim, Jake Cuenca and Enrique Gil sent their sympathies. Showbiz celebrities from other networks like Ogie Alcasid, Marvin Agustin, Ping Medina and Mark Bautista also said they were praying for the actor. Even basketball brothers Jeron and Jeric Teng wished for the speedy recovery of their “idol.”
Sen. JV Ejercito expressed concern in his Twitter account: “Shocked to see Vhong Navarro’s photos. Hope he recovers very soon.”
Broadcaster Karen Davila posted, “To Vhong and his family, prayers for complete healing. May you come out of this stronger. #prayforvhongnavarro”.
In Rono’s latest interview with pep.ph, he revealed Navarro’s current state. “Nakakagalaw na naman siya, nakakapagsalita naman siya, nakakapagbigay naman ng statement, pero hindi pa siya ayos talaga,” Rono said.
Rono said he believes six men pounced on Navarro but gave no other details on the advice of Navarro’s lawyers.
