OUR page 1 story on Thursday July 23 under the headline “PNoy: Shun dishonest leaders” was again an example of the President’s unparalleled temerity.
He was speaking in Norzagaray, Bulacan, where he had gone to inspect Angat Dam.
Here are some paragraphs from that story by our Palace reporter Catherine S. Valente.
“President Benigno Aquino 3rd on Wednesday warned the public against electing dishonest, self-serving leaders who only make empty promises.
“In a speech, the President said the nation should vote for candidates who have integrity and ability to continue his reforms.
“ ‘This is my appeal to you. Choose a leader who will be true to you,’ Aquino said.
“ ‘Don’t go for anyone who just gives statements and empty promises. Not someone you doubt to be abusive and an opportunist. Not someone who is only after his personal ambition and not the interest of the nation,’ he added.”

And here are some of the comments sent in by our readers. We did not get a single letter or comment praising the President for making this call for honest leaders.
Reader ThunderousCloud wrote: “Yes, we made a huge mistake in the last presidential election.”
In Tagalog, reader Art Pacheco, wrote: “Aba ok yang payo mo…pag sinunod ng taong bayan iyan…lahat ng nakaupo ngayon di uli uupo. salamat sa personal experience mo…sana magtanda na ang taong bayan…” [Hey, your advice is ok…if the people heed it…all the present officials will no longer get reelected. Thanks your personal experience…let’s hope the citizens don’t ever forget…]
From reader Zak Pasiking: “Pnoy said: ‘Don’t go for anyone who just gives statements and empty promises. Not someone you doubt to be abusive and an opportunist. Not someone who is only after his personal ambition and not the interest of the nation.’
Tama siya..Based on his personal experience. Ibig kong sabihin, “huwag iboto ang kagaya ko, na magaling mangako ngunit naipapako naman. Abusado at opurtyenado at ang personal na interes ang inaatupag, walang pakialam kung ang ating kababayan ay maghihirap.” (What I mean is, ‘Don’t vote for anyone like me, who is great at making promises but never does them. Who abuses his power, is opportunistic and only pursues his personal interests, and doesn’t give a damn if our compatriots suffer.]
Reader Abnoy-noyingski wrote: “And why are you still there as the President if you’re saying shun dishonest leaders? You are very very very dishonest even to your damn self.”
And this from reader Guadalupe: “President Benigno Aquino 3rd on Wednesday warned the public against electing dishonest, self-serving leaders who only make empty promises.”
In that case, following what this clueless and inept unelected president says, let us condemn him by his own words. Let us not elect those whom he will endorse. Let us not also re-elect the senators denounced by columnist Yen Macabenta as the principal instigators of insertions in the national budget, in violation of the Supreme Court’s prohibition. Let us point our fingers at this mad dog in Malacañang because he is the no.1 ‘self-serving (fake) leader who makes empty promises.’ Ted Failon has been broadcasting the empty promises that this Abnoy has made since SONA 1.”
