President Benigno Aquino 3rd on Monday paid tribute to local heroes, including Overseas Filipino Workers, (OFWs), who he said will lead the country on to road to progress.
The President led the commemoration of National Heroes Day by placing a wreath at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City.
In his speech delivered in Filipino, he called on the people to be inspired by the heroism of OFWs.
“Everyone of us is capable of being a hero,” he said.
National Heroes Day is celebrated every month of August to commemorate the “Cry of Pugad Lawin,” the fight for the country’s liberation from Spain.
This year’s theme is “Bayaning Pilipino sa Bawat Sandali: Hamon ng Bayan sa Bagong Salinlahi.”
The President also vowed to run after the conspirators in the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) abuse.
He called for public cooperation and vigilance to prevent a repeat of the scandal.
