Liberal Party (LP) presidential candidate Manuel “Mar” Roxas 2nd wants to be like President Benigno Aquino 3rd.
In a campaign in Hong Kong over the weekend, Roxas said he won’t be different from President Aquino should he succeed him as the country’s leader because the President is a man of integrity.
“President Aquino is an honest man. Why would I want to be different from an honest man? I want to be like him, an honest man. He never stole public funds. He is clean, structured. He loves our country. Why would I want to change that? I also love my country,” Roxas said in a mix of English and Filipino.
“Good governance, being results-oriented… these are the things we have seen. People may or may not agree with President Aquino’s decision on ay matter, but it is undeniable that the World Bank, IMF [International Monetary Fund], among others, have rated us as Asia’s Bright Star. We are at the receiving end of investments. The world holds us in reputable regard, so I want to continue that [trend]and sustain the country’s prosperity,” he added.
Roxas said his administration won’t tolerate corruption in its ranks, regardless if it involves his allies.
The Aquino administration has been criticized for treating its erring allies with kid gloves while going all-out against its political rivals.
“We won’t tolerate corruption and thievery in all forms, whether it involves Cabinet memebrs, my team or any other allies, if I am elected President. I am for honest government service and it is where I stand out. I won’t risk my untainted record of public service,” Roxas said.
