BAGUIO CITY: The Department of Labor and Employment-Cordillera Administrative Region (DOLE-CAR) over the weekend called on employers in the region to comply with the new wage rate that took effect on February 3.
Regional Tripartite Wage and Productivity Board (RTWPB) Wage Order RB-CAR-16 approved by the wage board led by DOLE-CAR Regional Director Henry John Jalbuena provides for new minimum wage rates and the partial integration of the cost of living allowance (COLA) to the basic pay of the region’s private sector workers.
RTWPB Board Secretary Agosto Aquillo said that under the wage board order, the daily minimum wage is set at P280 for the industry sector in Baguio City and the towns of La Trinidad, Itogon, Sablan and Tuba in Benguet province (BLIST).
From the previous P243 basic pay plus P37-COLA, P17 from the COLA is integrated to the basic pay, which is now P260 a day while P20 shall be retained as COLA.
The same adjustment was intended for other provinces in the region. The daily minimum wage stands at P263 a day but a COLA integration of P6 was applied to make the basic pay P243 a day plus P20 COLA.
For the agriculture and retail/service sector, the new minimum wage rates now stands at P268 (P248 basic plus P20 COLA) for BLIST and P247 (P227 basic plus P20 COLA) for other areas in the region.
Aquillo said the effect of the adjustment in the daily wage of private sector workers will be reflected in their 13th month pay, overtime pay, holiday pay and service incentive leave pay.
“Private sector workers will now have bigger payment in terms of such services as their daily basic pay has already increased,” Aquillo said.
In line with the new wage order, he said RTWPB is conducting a series of public orientations.
For Baguio City and Benguet, the public orientation is scheduled on February 12 at 1:30 p.m. at the Margarita Hall of Hotel Supreme; for the provinces of Kalinga and Apayao, on February 18 in Tabuk City, Kalinga; and for the province of Ifugao and Mountain Province, on February 20.
The orientation for Abra province was held on January 29.
