”IN BINONDO: ONCE UPON A WAR,” the first novel of 84-year-old University of the Philippines Professor Emeritus Amelia Lapeña-Bonifacio, will be launched at 2:30 p.m.
today at the Claro Recto Conference Hall in the Faculty Center of the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City.
The book is published by The Manila Times Publishing Corporation.
Former President Fidel V. Ramos will be among the speakers at the launching.
Sponsored jointly by the University of the Philippines Office of the Diliman Chancellor, the College of Arts and Letters, the Institute of Creative Writing, the Department of English & Comparative Literature and the Manila Times Publishing Corp., the book launching program will start with opening remarks by Dean Elena Mirano and a short talk on “Our Productive Senior Professors” by Diliman Chancellor Michael Tan.
UP President Alfredo Pascual will introduce Ramos,the guest of honor, whose deep knowledge and broad experience in the military as a general leads him to this afternoon’s talk on “The High Cost of World War II.”
The second part of the program will open with “The Dance of Sisa,” a puppetry dance number by Dr. Amihan Bonifacio-Ramolete after which novelist Charleson Ong will talk on “The Writing of the Novel.”
Bonifacio, also a playwright, will speak on “The First Novel: The Challenge. Dean Roland Tolentino, acting director of the Institute of Creative Writing, will give the closing remarks.
Dr. Lily Rose Tope, chairperson of the Department of English and Comparative Literature, and who will be the master of ceremonies, will assist in the signing of the novel, which will be available on a discounted launch price.
