If sports had the much-talked about boxing match between Philippines’ fighting pride Manny Pacquiao and Australian boxer Jeff Horn during the weekend, showbizlandia had a proposal and a superhero sighting to keep netizens buzzing.
Erich Gonzales reacts over billboard date proposal
A day after the billboard date proposal of an alleged businessman for actress Erich Gonzales went viral, the actress finally expressed how she felt through TV writer Darla Sauler, who shared the tidbit through via her website darlasauler.com.
Gonzales found Xian Gaza’s proposal “cute.”
“Hi Darls!!! :) How are you? Hahaha!!! Ang cute ng effort ni Kuya. It’s fine. Let’s see when I get back. There’s nothing wrong naman if we talk over coffee, pero dapat kasama ka. Hahaha!!!” Gonzales, who is currently in US, wrote.
Over the weekend Gonzales became a trending topic Twitter when photos of a billboard carrying the message, “I can’t even espresso how much I like you a latte. Will you… drink coffee with me?” It was dedicated to Erika Chryselle Gancayco—Gonzales’ real name—and was signed by a “Xian S. Gaza.”
According to his public profile, Gaza is the president and CEO of Guanxiqian Group.
In his own Instagram account @xiangaza, the young businessman posted a photo of him looking at the billboard and proudly wrote, “They say it’s a first time in Philippine history. I say: That’s how special you are to me. @erichgg, will you drink coffee with me?” The post has since garnered 6,584 likes.
Linked to his personal Facebook account, the same photo picked up 23,000 likes and almost 5,900 shares as of press time.
A lengthier post together with a snap of Gaza and Gonzales followed the billboard photo. It turns out that Gaza has had a long-time crush on Gonzales a chance encounter with the actress in a cinema house on January 5.
Gonzales was in a relationship with model-actor Daniel Matsunaga until their highly publicized split in February.
New Darna heats up ToyCon
The Filipina komiks character had a fitting “hero’s welcome” at ToyCon 2017 at SMX Convention Center over the weekend. Liza Soberano, dubbed the millennial generation’s Darna, arrived to deafening cheers as she led the ribbon cutting longside international stars such as Stefan Kapicic from “Deadpool,” Lindsey McKeon from “Supernatural,” Karen Fukuhara from “Suicide Squad,” Charlie Bewley from “Twilight,” and Kevin Mcnally from “Pirates of the Carribean.”
“I’m very happy to be with people who keep our comics industry alive because this is where Darna really started,” said Soberano, who will portray the iconic heroine in an upcoming movie, remarked.
Later in the afternoon, the 19-year-old It Girl met the Ravelo family for the first time when she visited the “Ravelo Komiks Superhero” booth. Mars Ravelo is the super heroine’s creator,
As a gift, the Ravelos gave Soberano the first four panels of the first Darna Komiks with a dedication that read, “The magical stone has been passed on to many and after a long search, luckily you have been chosen to continue Darna’s courage and greatness. Thank you for accepting!”
