THE Office of the Special Prosecutor opposed the request of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for the Sandiganbayan to rethink its resolution last month denying her bail a third time. Arroyo is facing a P366-million plunder case for the alleged misuse of Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) funds during her presidency. “So long as the accused is charged with a capital offense and the evidence of guilt against him is found to be strong, no amount of reason could bail him out,” prosecutors said in their comment submitted last week. The court denied Arroyo’s request to post bail in November last year. She asked for reconsideration last February but was denied last April because the court ruled that evidence against her is strong.
