Prosecution opposes Mike Arroyo’s travel plea

The prosecution is asking the Sandiganbayan’s Fourth Division to deny “for lack of merit” the request of former First Gentleman Jose Miguel “Mike” Arroyo for permission to travel abroad to attend an Arroyo family reunion. Earlier, Arroyo filed a Motion for Leave to Travel asking the court to allow him go to Japan and Hong Kong for the reunion. “Accused-movant’s allegations in the motion are self-serving, absent any attachments/documents to prove the same. If indeed he really intends to go to these places, he would have reserved tickets for such journey and he would have made hotel reservations for this purpose. Besides, accused-movant’s travel is purely for leisure which ground is not meritorious enough,” the prosecution argued. Arroyo’s camp argued that he has posted bail, is not a flight risk and has always honored his promises to return to the country.
