SEVERAL tarpaulins hanging on footbridges across Metro Manila caught the attention of the public on Thursday as they all had a common message: “Welcome to the Philippines: Province of China”, complete with its Chinese translation.

They could not have been hung at a more inopportune time as this Thursday, July 12, marks the Philippines’ “victory” against China when the Permanent Court of Arbitration at The Hague upheld the country’s sovereign rights over disputed territories in the South China Sea.
