The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) expressed its full support to ensure the successful staging of the 2014 Palarong Pambansa scheduled on May 4 to 10 in Santa Cruz, Laguna.
If needed, the PSC is ready to provide sports equipment including touch pad for swimming, competition rings for boxing, hurdles for athletics and other technical supplies.
The Palaro, an under-18 school-based tournament, is co-organized by the Department of Education, the local government unit in Laguna and the PSC.
The 2014 edition features three demonstrations sports – wushu, wrestling and billiards. The DepEd, however, removed the boxing event in elementary division.
Besides athletics, football and archery, other events are arnis, badminton, baseball, boxing (secondary), chess, gymnastics, sepak takraw, softball, table tennis, tae kwon do, tennis, volleyball and basketball.
Powerhouse National Capital Region will be defending its crown in the elementary and secondary divisions while Southern Tagalog Region and Western Visayas Region are the other strong contenders this year.
