Performance Studies international (PSi ), together with the National Commission on Culture and the Arts’ (NCCA) Committee on Dramatic Arts and other theater arts and cultural networks across the country, organized the Philippine Cluster of its 21st annual conference dubbed “Fluid States: Performance of the Unknowing.”
A year-long project initiated globally by the PSi in partnership with numerous cultural organizations, institutions, universities, non-government organizations and companies from different countries around the world, Fluid State aims to gather artists, activists and scholars from different fields and cultures to participate in the PSi#21Philippines: Performance, Disaster, Resilience is one of the 15 dispersed conferences that PSi hosts across Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania.
Bearing the theme “Sa Tagilid na Yuta” (On tilted earth), PSi’s Philippine Cluster is currently on call for participation—proposals, papers, panels, exhibitions and performances—that showcase the Filipinos’ artistic response to the challenges of being an archipelagic and disaster prone country.
It explores the effect of arts and performances in the recovery and the coping with the aftermath of disasters, natural or human induced, that frequent the archipelago.
The Philippine Cluster of PSi is composed of two major components. The RoRo Journeys and island events are travelling performance research correspondences inspired by the ‘roll-on, roll off’ transport system of our island group. It is intended to gather a repertoire of creative and artistic responses to disasters from across the archipelago through a travelling delegation of local and visiting researchers.
From April to September 2015, correspondents will traverse the three major island clusters of the country and present their activities in an online log containing videos, images and other intervention which may be accessed through their website. Local and visiting correspondents are welcome to present their scholarly works as part of the permanent online publication the Psi plans to develop. The same goes to the other PSi Fluid State locations across the globe.
The second component of the Philippine Cluster is the International Conference slated on November 5 to 8, 2015. It will be the culminating activity wherein the contents of the numerous RoRo Journeys undertaken by researchers, artists, activists, cultural workers and other correspondents will be incorporated into roundtable discussions, papers and panels.
The conference is tentatively set to happen at the De La Salle University Manila and the University of the Philippines Diliman.
Participation entries are accepted until January 31, 2015. For more information, contact Director Jazmin Llana at firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com, or Performance Studies Philippines at https://www.facebook.com/groups/perform.philippines or visit www.fluidstates.org.
