More than 200 young swimmers will be battling it out for supremacy in the Philippine Swimming League (PSL) 98th National Series Novice and Motivational Swimming Meet scheduled on Saturday at the Marzon Swimming Pool in Kalibo, Aklan.
Teams from different parts of the Western Visayas Region have already confirmed participation including powerhouse Aklan Swimming Team – the same club of 2016 Palarong Pambansa Female Most Outstanding Swimmer Kyla Soguilon in elementary level.
“This motivational program of the PSL helps a lot of coaches, parents and swimmers sustain their interest to continue to train, as they are very motivated as they keep on improving their times inch by inch in each competition and winning,” said PSL President Susan Papa.
Medals and trophies are up for grabs in the 5-under, 6 to 16 and 17-over categories for boys and girls.
“We are doing this to sustain our grassroots development program. We want to identify potential swimmers, to train and guide them properly for future international competitions. A lot of novice swimmers are improving from time to time and we want to give them proper exposure to further develop their skills and confidence,” added Papa.
The tournament will serve as tryout to select swimmers for international competitions including the SICC Swimming Championship in Singapore and the Royal Bangkok Invitational Swimming Meet in Thailand.
After the Kalibo competition, PSL will be holding its 99th National Series Novice and Motivational Swimming Meet on July 30 at the Diliman Preparatory School swimming pool in Quezon City.
“I want to develop youth as fully integrated members of society not just for the promotion of swimming but also for the development of young generation,” stressed Papa.
