Veteran international campaigners Sean Terence Zamora of University of Santo Tomas (UST) and Drew Benett Magbag of University of the Philippines Integrated School led the candidates for the Philippine Swimming League (PSL) Male Swimmer of the Year award.
Zamora and Magbag made waves in international competitions this year making them as the top choices for the coveted title.
The 15-year old Zamora bagged eight gold medals in the 2015 Indian Ocean All-Stars Challenge in Perth, Australia then followed it up with a six-gold output in the Convoy Stingray Invi-tational Swimming Meet in Hong Kong.
He also got three golds and three silvers in the Singapore Invitational Swimming Championship in August and two golds, one silver and one bronze in the Japan Swimming Championship in Tokyo.
Zamora copped the President’s Trophy five times and got eight Most Outstanding Swimmer awards
For his part, Magbag claimed four golds including two meet records in the Indian Ocean All-Star Challenge then earned a couple of silvers in the Japan Swimming Championship.
Marc Bryan Dula of Weissenheimer Academy and Paul Christian King Cusing of Diliman Preparatory School also shone in their respective campaigns in international tournaments.
Dula won one gold and four silvers in the Singapore Invitational Swimming Championship and a silver in the Singapore Open Midget Meet while Cusing claimed one silver in the two bronzes in the Indian Ocean All-Star Challenge, three bronzes in the Singapore Invitational Swimming Championship and three more bronzes in the Japan Swimming Championship.
The other candidates are 2015 Summer World University Games veteran Jux Keaton Solita of UST, Ferdinand Ian Trinidad of Pedro Guevara Memorial National High School-Laguna and Lans Rawlin Donato of University of the Philippines.
“We so proud of these kids and all of them are deserving to win. Sila ang magandang ehemplo ng mga batang swimmers lalo na yung mga nasa motivational division. We are hoping na mas maging maganda pa ang campaign nila sa susunod na taon,” said PSL President Susan Papa.
