The Philippine Swimming League (PSL) continues its grassroots development program as it goes to Bicol Region for the 77th National Series dubbed as Bicol Summer Swim Meet scheduled on Saturday at the Mariners Polytechnic Foundation swimming pool in Rawis, Legazpi City.

The one-day event will be hosted by PSL Regional Director for Region 5 Atty. Maria Theresa Mahiwo and A1 Athletes League headed by coach Lia Manuel.

“Commodore Dante Jimenez, president of Mariners Polytechnic Foundation helped PSL by allowing the free use of the pool in Rawis. The new swimmers from learn to swim of all swimming club in neighboring cities of Legazpi as well as the motivational level will be competing,” said PSL President Susan Papa.

The competition serves as qualifers to select swimmers to compete in the 2015 Singapore Asean Midget Meet and the Singapore Invitational Swimming Championship.

“We will not take for granted swimmers from other regions. They are also capable of competing in international level. We will not make it hard for them as PSL continues to develop the grassroots program outside of Manila and will give them equal opportunities,” stressed PSL Secretary General Maria Susan Benasa.

Palarong Pambansa standout Trisha Oliveros and Cape Town Swimming Championship veteran Jiffrey Azur as well as World University Games bets Jan Vincent Llaguno and Arriane Alcantara lead the participants in the 15-over age bracket.

Also seeing action are Peter Hernandez, Asa Mahiwo, Emanuel Adornado, Isis Arnaldo, Iris Arnaldo, Ashley Rances and Hannah Sartorio.

“You will be surprised that there are more swimmers that will be given a chance to compete in Universiade outside of Manila as they are working harder and good in character. They are proud and brave to represent the Philippines and smart to think what is best. It is an experience they will never forget in their life time,” added Papa.

The PSL is a national sports swimming association for universities and colleges accredited by the Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines (Fessap), internationally affiliated member of Federation of International Sports University (FISU).
