The Philippine Swimming League (PSL) got full support from the Philippine Embassy in Singapore headed by Ambassador Antonio Morales and Consul Mersol Mellejor.
Mellejor promised to extend full backing when the Philippines defends its overall championship title in the 2015 edition of the Singapore Invitational Swimming Championship at the Singapore Island Country Club (SICC).
“We are thankful to Ambassador Morales and Consul Mellejor for supporting us. Together with the Filipino community, they all watched the two days competition at SICC, the venue where Michael Phelps and the entire USA team, who acclimatized in preparation for the 2008 Beijing Olympics,” said PSL President Susan Papa.
The PSL bagged a total of 69 gold medals to retain the overall title.
“Both the Ambasssador and consul were amazed by the performance of the young swimmers in each and every event. With PSL 5 years participation in SICC the Philippine Ambassador then under Minda Cruz had supported and inspired the young Filipino swimmers for three years,” said Papa.
Eight Filipinos were named Most Outstanding Swimmers in their age groups. They are Sean Terence Zamora (boys’ 13-14), Jesreel Francisco (girls’ 11-12), Ma. Paula Angela Villamil (girls’ 13-14), Angelica Mae Medrano (girls’ 15-17), Delia Angela Cordero (girls’ 18-over), Christen Mercado (boys’ 18-over), Emanuel Solina (boys’ 7-8) and Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh (girls’ 7-8).
”Consul Mellejor was called to award the outstanding swimmers. He promised full support to PSL delegation next year,” added Papa.
