The Philippine Swimming League (PSL) will be holding its 90th National Series titled PSL Inter-school/Inter-club Class B and C-Motivational Swim Meet on Sunday at the Diliman College swimming pool in Quezon City.
The competition aims to select swimmers for future international competitions including the Indian Ocean All-Star Challenge in Australia, Convoy Stingray Invitational Swimming Championship in Hong Kong and 11th SICC Invitational Swim Meet in Singapore.
Slots for the prestigious World Summer University Games scheduled next year in Taipei, Taiwan are also at stake for those participants with ages 17 and over.
“This competition is open to all young swimmers who want to qualify in international competitions that we’ll be joining including the prestigious 27th Summer Universiade 2017 in Taiwan. We are opening the doors to our young tankers,” said PSL President Susan Papa.
“This competition is open to all swimmers. We don’t have any restrictions. As long as they are interested and willing to improve their craft, we’re here to guide them,” she said.
Some 20 Most Outstanding Swimmer trophies will be awarded by age band separately by category – 6-under, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, and 15-over.
“We are creating programs with the intention to provide opportunities and appropriate training and educational intervention essential in establishing ‘long-term growth’ and we are thankful that there are lots of people who support our program,” Papa stressed.
More than 300 swimmers from different parts of the country have confirmed participation including those from Cebu, Iloilo, Capiz, Bacolod, Davao, Surigao, Cavite, Manila, Marikina, Aklan, Nueva Viscaya and Bicol.
“We are here to help them, develop their talent and also their character. Attitude and discipline are very important factors in achieving excellence,” added Papa.
Recently, PSL won 13 golds, seven silvers and six bronzes in the 2016 Tokyo Winter Invitational Swimming Championship held at the St. Mary’s International School swimming pool in Japan.
PSL is a national sports swimming association for Universities and Colleges accredited by the Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines (FESSAP), internationally affiliated member of Federation of International Sports University (FISU).
