The Philippine Swimming League (PSL) is sending a strong 54-member team to the 2013 Singapore Swimming Championships scheduled on August 10 to 11 at the Singapore Island Country Club.
Palarong Pambansa standouts McTracy John Alindogan and Sean Terence Zamora along with promising tanker Jason Ryan Difuntorum will be leading the country’s campaign in the two-day tournament.
“We are sending potential swimmers as an incentive for their good performance and we thank private individuals that help us make this possible. Our aim is to be able to send swimmers, despite our meager resources, to international competitions for free to prepare them for big meets like the Asian Games and Universiade,” said PSL President Susan Papa.
Joining the team is another Palarong Pambansa champion, Maurice Sacho Ilustre, who won a gold medal in the 2013 Stingray Invitational Swimming Meet held at the Hong Kong International School in Hong Kong recently.
Last April, the PSL swimming team bagged nine gold, three silver and two bronze medals in the Long Course 2013 Phuket Swim Championship recently held at the Thanyapura Sports Club in Phuket, Thailand.
“We’ll try to win the overall title in Singapore. It [54 swimmers] will be the biggest ever that PSL is bringing in an international competition. The venue is the state of the art exclusive swimming pool where Michael Phelps acclimatized in preparation for the Beijing Olympics,” said Papa.
