TOKYO: The 10-tanker Philippine Swimming League (PSL) delegation is all set to compete in the 2016 Tokyo Nationals Swimming Championship scheduled on February 7 to 10 here.
The team will be holding a two-hour training at the St. Mary’s International School swimming pool today.
“Mas malamig ang klima ngayon kumpara noong November noong lumaban kami kaya kailangan ng mga bata na makapag-acclimatize para makapag-adjust ang katawan nila sa cold weather,” said PSL President Susan Papa.
Swimmer of the Year top candidates Sean Terence Zamora of University ng Santo Tomas (UST) and Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh of Immaculate Heart of Mary-College will be going all out to lead the country’s campaign in the tournament.
“Hindi madali na lumangoy pag ganito kalamig ang weather since the Philippines is a tropical country but we went here to compete and win medals. We’ll just do our best,” stressed Zamora who will be vying for honors in the boys’ 15-over category.
Mojdeh for her part said: “Dala namin sa laban na ito ang bansa natin kaya gagawin namin ang lahat para manalo.”
The other members of the team are University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 78 gold medalist Drew Benett Magbag of University of the Philippines (UP) Integrated School, Gwangju Universiade veteran Jux Keaton Solita of UST, Singapore Swimming Championship Most Outstanding Swimmer awardee Marc Bryan Dula of Weissenheimer Academy, Indian Ocean All-Star Challenge veterans Lans Rawlin Donato of UP and Martin Pupos of National University, Singapore Invitational Swimming Meet medalist Joey del Rosario of De La Salle Santiago Zobel School, Lowenstein Julian Lazaro of Philippine Yuh Chiau School, and John Leo Paul Salibio.
“We want to make sure that they are in tip top conditions before plunging into action. These kids are motivated and they are raring to go and win medals for our country,” added PSL Secretary General Maria Susan Benasa.
Also in the delegation are National Capital Region Director Joan Mojdeh, and coaches Alex Papa and Marlon Dula.
PSL is a national sports swimming association for Universities and Colleges accredited by the Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines (FESSAP), internationally affiliated member of Federation of International Sports University (FISU).
