The 48 female and 48 male swimmers will be representing the country in the prestigious 2015 World Universiade in Gwangju, South Korea.

This will be the third time that PSL will be sending participants to the biennial event—the Olympics for the colleges and universities. The first was in 2011 in Shenzen, China, and in 2013 in Kazan, Russia.

The PSL is the national sports Association for swimming of the Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines (Fessap) and the longest-running swimming grassroots program in the country.

“I want to spread the word among the college and university students that the World Universiade is the 2nd largest competition after the summer Olympics. This is far better than the SEA Games and Asian Games,” PSL President Susan Papa said.

Papa said the SEA Games is composed of 11 participating countries while the World Universiade is being participated by 190 countries.

“I see a lot of Olympians competing in the World Universiade. I want to open the eyes of the college students for the World Universiade Games that they do not see, It is once and a lifetime opportunity. If they can win in Universiade they can easy win in SEA Games,” added Papa.

Fessap is a member of the Federation Internationale Sport University (FISU)—an organization developed within university institutions to propagate sports values and promote sports practice in perfect synergy and complementarily with the University Spirit.

“We are inviting all college students to join the first tryout of the year sponsored by TMTC and anybody can join as long as you are a college student aged 17 up to 28 . It is all about Excellence in mind and body, it must be together,” Papa said.

The events in the World Universiade are 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1,500m in freestyle, and 50m 100m and 200m in backstroke, butterfly and breaststroke.

PSL had continue to attract more participants in this 2015 Universiade and has declared more than 60 candidates so far all over the country.

“We want to thanked Atty. Maria Luz Arzaga Mendoza for all the support she has done for both Fessap and PSL,” stressed Papa referring to Arzaga- Mendoza, who is the legal counsel of both Fessap and PSL.
