• PSL to send team to Thai-Denmark Super League tilt

The Philippine Superliga (PSL) is now assembling a team that will represent the country in the upcoming Thai-Denmark Super League women’s volleyball tournament slated on March 23 to 29 in Bangkok, Thailand.

PSL President Ramon Suzara said that the Philippines will send players under the tutelage of coach George Pascua, who steered the Tri-Activ Spikers to a pair of titles highlighted by an impressive 13-0 sweep in the PSL All-Filipino Conference last year.

“I have no idea on who he will select but rest assured that it’s going to be a fighting team,” said Suzara in a press statement.

The selection process will begin today in a try-out at the Far Eastern University and the final lineup is set to be revealed on Sunday.

Six teams from Thailand and each from the Philippines and Hong Kong have already confirmed participation in the prestigious one-week tourney supported by SMM TV, the official broadcaster of Asian Volleyball Confederation tournaments.

The participating Thai clubs are Thai sides King-Bangkok, Idea Khonkaen, 3BB Nokhonnont, Nakhon Ratchasima, Supreme Chonburi, and reigning champion Bangkok Glass consisting of national team players Pornpun Geudpard, Wanida Kotruang, Wiravan Sattayanuchit and skipper Pleumjit Thinkaow.

“The success of this tournament will open a lot of doors for women’s volleyball in the region,” said Suzara.

“We are thankful to the organizers for inviting us and believing in our ability to compete against other top teams in Southeast Asia. We’re looking forward to having a strong representation that will not only grow the sport in the country, but will also make the country proud,” he concluded.
