THE nation was gifted yesterday with three congressional hearings, namely: the continuation of the House justice committee hearings on the impeachment complaint against Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno; that of the Senate blue ribbon committee on the controversy/scandal over the P 3.5 billion government purchase of the uncertified Dengvaxia immunization vaccine against dengue fever; and that of the Senate public service committee on the PUV/jeepney modernization program that seeks to phase out or modernize the operations of jeepneys older than 15 years.

Each hearing was important in its own way. The broadcast networks dutifully set up their cameras to cover and record them all. But oddly, they had no idea where to place their priorities, and which one to broadcast to the nation. To seemingly cover everything, they resorted to switching live coverage from one hearing to another, without digesting or providing perspective on what was being said.
