University of the Philippines (UP) opened their Philippine Football Federation (PFF) Women’s League campaign with a 3-1 win over Green Archers United FC at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium on Sunday.
Mary Rose Obra led the reigning University Athletic Association of the Philippines champions Lady Maroons to victory.
Obra slipped past her marker for twin goals in the 14th and 32nd minutes to give her squad a 2-0 advantage at the break.
Green Archers United retaliated following Julia Panganiban’s conversion in the 52nd minute.
However, Obra once again pierce through the defense of their opponents in the 73rd minute to complete her hat-trick performance and secure the win for UP.
Meanwhile, Sara Castañeda’s three-goal output propelled De La Salle University (DLSU) to a 4-1 victory over The Younghusband Football Academy (TYFA).
Castaneda exploded into action in the opening half to put the Lady Archers ahead by three goals in the initial 32 minutes of the contest.
On the other end, Chanda Solite scored one goal for TYFA after penetrating the back line of DLSU, going into the midgame intermission.
Kyra Dimaandal sealed La Salle’s win with a goal of her own in the 59th minute of the game.
Hiraya FC also posted a win in the second day of the expanded PFF Women’s League by beating newcomers Kaya FC 4-0.
