Purefoods replaces Orton with Bowles

PUREFOODS named Denzel Bowles as the replacement for former National Basketball Association power forward Daniel Orton.

The 6’9 Bowles will play for Purefoods when the Hotshots battle the Ginebra Gin Kings in the second game of the Philippine Basketball Association PBA Season 40 Commissioners Cup at the Araneta Coliseum at 5 p.m. today.

Purefoods decided to release Orton after PBA Commissioner Chito Salud slapped him with a P250, 000 fine for calling KIA playing head coach Manny Pacquiao and some league officials a “joke.” Purefoods was also not impressed with Orton’s performance in his debut game.

The 6’9 Orton scored only six points plus three rebounds in 19 minutes before fouling out in Purefoods’ 84-95 loss against the KIA Carnival on Wednesday. Purefoods with a 4-2 win-loss record, is now keen on bagging its fifth victory after suffering a back-to-back loss.

Ginebra is expected to bank on the prowess of 6’10 import Michael Dunigan, 7-footer center Greg Slaughter, Japeth Aguilar, Mark Caguioa, Billy Mamaril and Mac Baracael, among others. The Gin Kings are holding a 2-3 win-loss record.

GlobalPort (3-3), with its new import Calvin Wagner, will try to extend its winning streak to three when it battles Blackwater (1-4) in first game at 5 p.m.
