Retail giant Puregold Price Club. Inc. will open smaller neighborhood stores this year under a new retail format as part of its expansion plan.
Puregold will test the new format on the market first to determine customer preferences.
“We want to confirm our assumptions about what our shoppers want,” said Antonio de los Santos, Puregold vice president for operations. “There are so many things to consider before we roll out in bulk,” he added.
Puregold may lease a building or acquire space inside a subdivision or residential communities to put up the neighborhood stores.
De los Santos said the testing phase will take around six months. “After the pilot we will determine how many we’d like to open,” he said.
The neighborhood stores will be on top of the 25 stores that Puregold plans to open this year. The new stores will be located in the provinces, especially in the Visayas and Mindanao, to cater to the growing markets in those regions.
For this year, Puregold has allotted P3 billion for the rollout of 25 stores to end the year with a total of 250 stores from the current 233.
Puregold also announced the launch of its loyalty card, Puregold Perks, which expands its rewards program not just to sari-sari store owners but to all shoppers.
“It’s our way of saying thank you to loyal customers who have been frequenting our aisles since we began in 1998. We owe our success to them, and we want to give them something in return,” de los Santos said.
“This is the first time for Puregold to launch a loyalty program for retail shoppers, making everyone a VIP,” he said.
Previously, Puregold only offered loyalty cards to members of its highly successful Tindahan ni Aling Puring Program which caters to its primary customers: wholesale buyers and sari-sari store and KAINdustriya members or food resellers.
Currently, members of this program may avail themselves of the Tindahan ni Aling Puring Green Card and the VIPuring Gold Card.
The Puregold Perks loyalty card is available in all of Puregold’s 233 branches across the country. The company said there are now close to 500,000 Puregold Perks members three months after it was launched.
