Resigned Director General Alan Purisima of the Philippine National Police on Friday admitted providing “intelligence package” for the arrest of Zulkipli Bin Hir alias Marwan and Abdulbasit Usman but denied directly commanding the ground commander of the PNP-Special Action Force (PNP-SAF).
He also denied keeping the botched anti-terrorist operation a secret.
The embattled police official said he could not command or issue any order because he was suspended at the time.
Besides, he said, that was the job of the ground commander.
Pat of the intelligence package that he provided the SAF, according to Purisima, was the possible location of the target terrorists.
He further denied that he was with President Benigno Aquino 3rd in Zamboanga monitoring the operation, saying he was in Nueva Ecija on January 24 or a day before the 44 SAF commandos were slaughtered by members of the separatist Moro Islamic Liberation Front and the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters.
When asked when did he and President Aquino meet, Purisima said, “Yang pong tinatanong nyo ay executive privilege na [That is executive privilege].”
