    0

A RECENT survey of the United Nations (UN) showed that a large number of person with disabilities (PWDs) die or suffer injuries during disasters because they are rarely consulted about their needs and governments lack adequate measures to address them. In an online survey conducted by the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) and partners, nearly 6,000 persons with disabilities in 126 countries were consulted on how they cope and prepare for disasters. The results, which were released on Friday ahead of the International Day for Disaster Reduction, showed that people living with disabilities across the world are rarely consulted about their needs in times of disasters.
