The plan of Qatar Airways to have direct flights to the Clark International Airport in Pampanga will benefit Filipinos in Oman and Qatar, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Thursday.
Citing reports from the Philippine Embassy in Muscat, the Foreign Affairs department said Filipinos in Doha are not the only ones who will benefit from the planned direct flights.
Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the Oman capital city of Muscat will also find it easier to go home to the Philippines.
Those coming from Oman have to take the more than one-hour travel time from Muscat to Doha in order to board a plane to the Philippines.
Joe Rajadurai, Qatar Airways country manager for Oman, and his team called on charge d’affaires Hjayceelyn Quintana to inform her of the airways’ plan to start direct flights from Doha to Clark on October 27.
“The plan of some Middle East-based airlines, including Qatar Airways, to fly directly to Clark International Airport will benefit the Filipinos in Oman,” the department said.
“[Charge d’Affaires] Quintana welcomed this development as this will not only provide Filipinos more travel options but will further boost Philippine trade and tourism as well,” it added.
The Clark International Airport is eyed as the next premier international gateway of the Philippines. It is approximately 80 kilometers north of Manila and takes around 1.5 hours in travel time. BERNICE CAMILLE V. BAUZON
