QATAR leaned on five players to beat Jordan, 75-61, while Iran demolished India, 102-58, on Monday remaining unbeaten in Group E and Group F respectively in the second round elimination of the 27th FIBA-Asia Men’s Basketball Championship at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The 6’8 Jarvis Hayes, a 10th overall pick by the Washington Wizards in 2003, finished with 15 points to lead Qatar into its fourth straight victory.
Jordan, still winless in three games was led by Mohammad Hadrab, who notched 16 points while Wesam Al-Sous added 14 and naturalized player Jimmy Baxter 12.
With the win, the Qataris are looking at a strong possibility of advancing into the quarterfinals.
In the second game, 7’2 Iranian Hamed Hadadi, who played with the Memphis Grizzlies and Phoenix Suns in the National Basketball Association, finished with 12
points and seven rebounds; Hamed Afagh contributed 16 points, three rebounds and three assists while Nikkhah Bahrami posted 15 points.
Host Philippines will take on Qatar today at 8:30 p.m. while Jordan will open the fifth day of action with an important game against Hong Kong at 10:30 a.m. The other scheduled matches are Iran vs. Bahrain at 12:45 p.m., Japan vs. Chinese-Taipei at 3 p.m., China vs. India at 5:45 p.m. and South Korea vs. Kazakhstan at 10:45 p.m.
