QC council drops drone purchase

Members of the Quezon City Council Committee on Laws had slashed over P6 million budget to buy an AUV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) or ‘drone’ intended for use by the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Center (DRRMC) established by Mayor Herbert Bautista to mitigate the damages in case of calamities. In Tuesday afternoon’s hearing, Majority Floor Leader and committee chair Jesus ‘Bong’ Suntay (District 4) blocked the proposal made by the DRRMC head, City Administrator Aldrin Cuna. “We’re not saying no. Lets wait for the national government (to have that). Lets not be the first to say we were the first to have that (high-tech equipment),” Suntay said hinting that having the drone would require trained personnel to fly the equipment along with the lifetime maintenance cost.
