• QC crafting shelter plan for street dwellers

THE Quezon City government, through its Housing Community Development and Resettlement Department (HCDRD) in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), is devising a plan for homeless families. These residents were recently invited to an orientation on the Community Mortgage Program under the Urban Development and Housing Act of 1992, which assists underprivileged and homeless people to purchase and develop land under the concept of community ownership. Ed Madamba, HCDRD assistant head, said their office will craft proposals and submit these to DSWD for review and will be implemented with the city government and other shelter organizations. The HCDRD estimated about 600 families live in the streets of Quezon City. The DSWD is subsidizing the rent of 555 street dwellers in the city every month under the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program.
