QC designates alternate routes for SONA

The Quezon City government had designated alternative routes that motorists can take to avoid the expected heavy vehicular traffic near the Batasang Pambansa on Monday when President Rodrigo Duterte will deliver his second State of the Natiion Address (SONA).

Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Director Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar said Commonwealth Avenue will not be closed to vehicle traffic. The city had also cancelled classes on July 24, but traffic jams are expected because of the activities and demonstrations of various cause-oriented groups.

To help motorists, officials designated alternate routes. Those going northbound may take the first alternate route from EDSA by turning right on Congressional Avenue, left on Mindanao Avenue, right at Old Sauyo Road, then left to Chestnut Road, and right again on Dahlia Street, then left to Fairlane and then left to Commonwealth Avenue.

The second alternate route is from Quezon Memorial Circle via North Avenue, right to Mindanao Avenue, right to Old Sauyo Road then left to Chestnut Street, right to Dahlia, then left at Fairlane Street. From Fairlane, left to Commonwealth Avenue.

Alternate route 3 is also from Quezon Memorial Circle via Visayas Ave. Motorists may turn left at Tandang Sora Avenue, right to Mindanao Avenue, right to Old Sauyo Road then left to Chestnut Street and right to Dahlia Street, then left to Fairlane Street and left to Commonwealth Avenue.

Southbound motorists coming from Commonwealth Avenue may turn right at Fairlane Street, right at Dahlia Street, left at Chestnut Street, right to Old Sauyo Road, then left to Mindanao Avenue and on to EDSA.

At 8 a.m. on July 24, 2017, IBP Road eastbound lane shall be partially closed from Filinvest 1 to Sinagtala to give way to the activities of rallyists and demonstrators.

Government officials and guests can go the House of Representatives can the zipper lane at Sinagtala and turn left to the Batasan building using the Southgate.

At 12 noon on Monday, the entire eastbound lane of IBP Road will be closed to the public from Litex to Sandiganbayan. Vehicles coming from Filinvest 1 and Sinagtala, going to Commonwealth Avenue can take the westbound lane of IBP Road and exit to Sandiganbayan, while those on San Mateo Road, Filinvest 2 going to Fairview and Commonwealth Avenue may take the westbound lane of IBP Rd and exit to Litex.

After the SONA, only the westbound lane of IBP Road leading to Sandiganbayan underpass shall be open for the exclusive use of exiting vehicles coming from the House going to Commonwealth Ave.

Sinagtala going to Commonwealth via IBP Road will be closed from 12 noon. To reach Filinvest 1, take Sinagtala corner Masbate going to IBP Road Commonwealth.

Normal flow of traffic is expected to resume at 6 p.m.
