A young mother was killed while her two daughters are still in critical condition when they were hit by a speeding truck while waiting for a ride along a portion of the so-called Quezon City killer highway—Commonwealth Avenue on Thursday night.
Police identified the fatality as Raquel Mancia, 29, who died on the spot because of severe injuries while her daughters, three-year-old Kylee and six-month-old baby girl Icy, are still being treated at the Far Eastern University (FEU) Hospital.
The truck driver, Ruben Paraiso, 58, of Santa Maria, Bulacan, has been taken into police custody for charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide. He told investigators that he lost control of his truck.
Traffic Enforcer Bong Moises, Quezon City Police District Traffic Enforcement Unit Sector 5 said the incident happened at around 11:30 p.m. when the victim and her two children where standing at a waiting shed along the killer highway in North Fairview part when Paraiso’s truck (RKE-946) plowed into them.
The victims were thrown several meters away and were rushed by witnesses to the nearby FEU hospital.
Aside from the charges, Paraiso was also slapped with two counts of serious physical injuries.
