The commander of the Quezon City Police Station 2 (Masambong) and the head of the anti-illegal drug unit were relieved yesterday following the sacking from their posts of five policemen facing extortion raps.
In a press conference at Camp Karingal, Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Acting District Director Sr. Supt. Guillermo Eleazar said the relief of Supt. Dario Anasco and Chief Insp. Virgilio Carodan was based on the principle of command responsibility.
“Though their participation in the extortion practice of their men has to be establish yet, they were relieved and transferred to the District Headquarters Support Unit for them not to influence the ongoing investigation,” Eleazar said.
Anasco and Carodan were the superiors of PO1 Michael Gragasin, Sr. Insp. Benjamin Mayor, SPO3 Archimedes Marzan, PO2 Alex Chocowen and PO1 Jeron de Dios who were charged with extortion after negotiating for the release of a drug suspect in exchange for cash.
Gragasin was arrested by operatives of the District Special Operations Unit (DSOU) headed by Supt. Rogarth Campo in an entrapment operation on August 20, 2016.
Eleazar said administrative charges were also filed against the five policemen.
Supt. Igmedio Bernaldez will replace Anasco.
