QC to arrest minors for curfew violation

MINORS caught outside of their homes after 10 p.m., will still be apprehended for violating the curfew in Quezon City, Mayor Herbert Bautista said. In an interview over ABS-CBN. Bautista cited barangay ordinance on curfews, pointing out that the temporary restraining order (TRO) issued by the Supreme Court (SC) only pertains to city ordinances such as the one in Quezon City, Manila and Navotas City. The TRO was issued after a youth group filed the case before the SC saying the ordinances violate their human rights. Bautista said crimes involving minors have decreased dramatically with the strict implementation of the ordinance. Meanwhile, Bautista said, they will file a motion for reconsideration once they officially receive the complaint.

TRO is inappropriate, only exemption certificate is needed for those with meritorious reasons. It is apparent, therefore, that SC failed to weight the merits of the curfew ordinance.
