QUEZON is asking the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for a six-month extension period to utilize the Payatas IPM landfill for a dry run by hauling contractors. In a report to Mayor Herbert M. Bautista during a regular executive meeting, Environment Protection and Waste Management Department (EPWMD) head Frederika Rentoy said that at least 15 percent of every fleet to be contracted by the city government for transporting the city garbage to the disposal facility at Rodriguez, Rizal will have to undergo a dry run at the Payatas IPM landfill. Rentoy said a 100 percent increase has been proposed in their department budget for 2015 because of garbage hauling activities. She said the current operation at the Payatas IPM landfill is covered by an Environment Compliance Certificate (ECC) issued by the DENR. Another ECC is required for expansion purposes and for areas being targeted to be used in the next two to three years.
