QC warns taxpayers vs manual receipts

Sensing money will change hands during the local tax payment period, Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista warned local taxpayers not to accept manually prepared receipts as proof of payment for business and property taxes. In a memorandum issued obtained by The Manila Times, Bautista prohibited cashiers against issuing temporary or provisional receipts and should only use computer-generated receipts. According to a City Hall insider, the mayor is avoiding the chances where members of the City Treasurer’s Office are reportedly able to adjust the amounts of payment reflected in manually-prepared receipts. As an added feature, the mayor also designated the heads of the Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO) and the Treasury Department to approve the Final Billing and the Order of Payment.
