Quake hits Zambales province


The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported a magnitude 5.9 earthquake which shook Zambales early Sunday dawn. Its epicenter was located at 30 kilometers southwest of San Antonio town and had a depth of 48 kilometers. The quake was tectonic in origin. The Phivolcs describes the severity of recorded earthquakes with Intensity 10 as “completely devastating” and Intensity 5 as “strong.” The agency also reported an Intensity 4 or “moderately strong” tremor in Pateros, Pasig, Manila, Quezon, Makati, Parañaque, Malabon and Pasay cities in Metro Manila. No one was reported hurt or damage in the incident. The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) also assured the public of a steady power supply as none of its facilities was damaged by the quake.
