After Pope Francis expressed a desire to visit disaster-hit areas in Central Visayas, Mindanao’s first cardinal, Orlando Quevedo of the Archdiocese of Cotabato, urged the Holy Father to also visit Central Mindanao that was hit by a man-made calamity, the Zamboanga siege.
In a press conference for the 51st International Eucharistic Congress, Quevedo wished that the Pope would make a side trip to Central Mindanao to visit the victims of the Zamboanga siege.
“I was simply wishing that perhaps the Holy Father when he comes to the Philippines to visit the Yolanda victims could have a side trip, if his time allows, to Cotabato City and perhaps push the peace process there,” Quevedo said.
Recently, the Pope expressed his great desire to visit the victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda in Tacloban and the 7.2-magnitude earthquake in Bohol on January 2015.
The Pope is also set to visit in Sri Lanka.
