• Quezon City fire leaves 9 injured

A FIRE hit a residential area in Barangay Tatalon, Quezon City, on Thursday night, destroying around 100 houses and leaving 300 families homeless and nine injured.

According to the Quezon City Fire Department, illegal electrical connection or a stove left unattended might be the cause of the fire that started on the second-floor kitchen of the four-story house of a resident named Napoleon Marcelo.

Authorities said the fire spread rapidly because the houses were made mostly from light materials.

A burning electric post fell during fire.

Manuel Claudio, a fire volunteer, suffered first-degree burns as a result.

Others injured were identified as Jordan Bantilo, Bureau of Fire Protection Assistant Regional Director for Operations Cospolo Diaz, Police Officer 1 Zoilo Nazario, a Fire Officer 1 Batuto, Chief Insp. Alma Abacajen and Erman del Castillo of television network Net 25.

The fire was put out by 10 p.m.

The BFP said damage from the fire was at P600,000.

Residents of the area were evacuated to a covered court.

Officials said the residents will be needing food for at least a week.
