Quizon, Borromeo, Lagura rule Shell chess


Daniel Quizon and Genesis Borromeo won the kiddies and juniors titles, respectively of the 2015 Shell National Youth Active Chess Championship national finals at SM Megamall on Sunday.

Veteran campaigner McDominique Lagula, meanwhile, took the seniors plum.

Quizon dominated the 12-and-under division with eight points for a 1.5-point victory over Mark Bacojo and Adrian de Luna.

Borromeo, on the other hand, beat Adrian Yulo in the juniors division final round.

San Beda’s Lagula pulled of a tiebreak victory against National U’s Vince Medina to rule the seniors division.

The top female finishers with five points each in the kiddies and juniors divisions respectively were Irish Yngayo of Davao Central College and Jesca Docena of Wesleyan College of Manila.

University of the Philippines’ Arvie Lozano with 5.5 points clinched the top honor in the female seniors division.

Present during the awarding ceremony were Melanie Bularan, Shell social investment and social performance manager, and FIDE Master Randy Segarra, a Shell Active Chess alumnus.
