RACHEL-ANNE-DAQUIS20160209Besides excelling in volleyball, professional athlete Rachel Anne Daquis is also one of FHM Magazine’s Top 10 Sexiest Women of 2015. While being voted into the elite circle of gorgeous women for her well-toned physique and trademark abs, she would rather describe herself as “strong” rather than “sexy.”

“Strong is the new sexy,” Daquis proclaimed at her launch as the face of Vida Nutriscience Inc. products mySlim and Snow Caps. She explained she has always aimed for strength rather than looking good ever since she started playing volleyball professionally.

“Merong mga tao na parang sa sobrang payat ang tingin nila sa sarili nila ay sexy. Pero para sa akin, sexier ka pag alam mong athletic ka, pag alam mo fit ka,” the 28-year-old achiever The Manila Times.

Through her new endorsement, she believes that she can empower others to be active too. She noted, “I want to encourage women na maging active kahit hindi pumasok sa isang sports. Sa akin, puwede namang maging active ka sa simpleng pagtakbo or paglakad every morning for 30 minutes.”

And what she gets from being active? “For me, pag active ka, lalakas yung immune system mo, hindi ka kaagad magkakasakit. Pag active ka, parang sobrang light lang lagi ng mood,” the 5’10 stunner replied.

Failed beginnings
Indeed, Daquis has come a long way since she led her collegiate team FEU Tamaraws won the UAAP Women’s Volleyball championship of 2008.

A late bloomer in volleyball, Daquis tried almost every sport including running and swimming in the beginning. When she finally realized that volleyball was her passion in high school, she tried out for a possible scholarship in two different universities where she hoped to play for but met disappointment.

“Nag-start ako sa failure,” she recalled.

That’s when Far Eastern University came into picture as she turned her “Plan B into A.” Giving her all for the Tamaraws, Daquis went as far as carrying the flag of the Philippines as member of the National Women’s Volleyball Team in the 2015 Southeast Asian Games in Singapore.

Looking back, Daquis shared that her failure taught her an invaluable lessons: “Coping with defeat, as well as always striving to be stronger.”

As such, she has developed the confidence to advice women who find it hard to lose weight or achieve their desired physique.

Unang una kailangan ng discipline. Hindi po natin ma-a-achieve ang fit body kung wala po tayong disiplina sa sarili. Walang instant,” she wisely ended.
