SECOND seed Rain or Shine aim for a 2-0 lead when they battle Petron Blaze today in Game Two of the best-of-seven semifinals series of the 39th Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
After their 103-95 victory in Game One on Monday, the Elasto Painters of Coach Yeng Guiao will attempt to stretch their 10-game winning streak in their 8 p.m. encounter with Petron.
Guiao will lean on Paul Lee, Jervy Cruz, Beau Belga and Ryan Arana, who combined for 54 points and 14 rebounds that enabled them to secure an early lead. Guiao stressed that his wards did a splendid defense that forced the Blaze Boosters to commit 25 turnovers.
“We did a good job defensively. This is the way we want it done. Now, we are ready to play a fast and furious pace. Petron can expect that all throughout the series,” said Guiao.
But Petron coach Gee Abanilla vowed to make some adjustments in today’s game, saying all they have to do is play at a higher level.
“Definitely, mentally we should be at that level. We saw first-hand, it’s really physical out there. We were bothered offensively. If we don’t get those calls, we take bad shots. That resulted in a lot of turnover points, transition points and second chance points. All hustle points,” Abanilla said.
