RAIN or Shine will be aiming for a 2-0 lead when it meets San Mig Coffee at 4:30 p.m. today in Game 2 of the best-of-seven titular series of the 39th Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
Coaches Yeng Guiao of Rain or Shine and Tim Cone of San Mig Coffee are expecting a down-the-wire battle.
Rain or Shine was powered by the 6’1 guard Paul Lee’s layup in the dying seconds to escape with an 83-80 victory in the series opener on Friday.
“I was expecting a tired San Mig Coffee. They were able to manage their fatigue well. They do not look like they were tired. I think both teams are going to stabilize. If Game 1 was a nice game then we will see a much more better Game 2. Maybe the execution, the timing will get better,” said Guiao, who is aiming for his first All-Filipino crown and second for the Elasto Painters since 2006.
The Coffee Mixers dominated the rebound department in the first game but the Elasto Painters dominated the field goal and three-point area. They also ruled the assist and block shot departments.
“Tomorrow, I’m gonna wake up fresh and get ready for Game 2. Maybe we lacked focus because the team was tired from Ginebra series. We will get better in Game 2,” said Cone.
